Mission Statement
Sacramento Valley Historical Railways, DBA Woodland Train Depot, is a fellowship of volunteers who are dedicated to community service and education through the preservation and operation of historic railroad equipment and structures in the Sacramento Valley.
Objective and Purpose
The Woodland Train Depot is a valued treasure in Yolo County. Sacramento Valley Historical Railways is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to educating the public about railroads and railroad history and to the preservation and operation of historic railroad equipment and structures. It was built in 1911 as the Woodland Southern Pacific Train Depot, the third of four train depots built in Woodland and the only original still remaining.
Collect, preserve, and interpret the history of railroading in the Sacramento Valley.
Create and maintain a museum in the former Southern Pacific Woodland Depot to house and display the Corporation’s collection of historically significant railroad artifacts, documents, books, rolling stock, equipment, fixtures, and items related to the Sacramento Valley.
Preserve, restore, display, operate and maintain former Southern Pacific Steam Locomotive # 1233 as an interpretive exhibit of railroading in the steam era in the Sacramento Valley.
Membership
Membership helps the Woodland Train Depot to remain open to the public for free, encourages learning of railroad history and preserves a vital piece of transportation history. It offers the hands-on experience of working in an historic train depot with others who enjoy fellowship and community service.

Volunteer
Whether you have an interest in history, railroad transportation, or just being part of an important community organization, you are needed. Here are some of the many ways you can volunteer:
Museum Docent – Needed for tours, events, monthly open house, and other community activities.
Restoration Projects – Work on rolling stock, equipment, exhibits, and artifacts.
Historian – Researcher – Research, compile, and record the railroad history of the Sacramento Valley.
Building Maintenance – Keep the Depot clean and orderly.
Grounds Keeper – Maintain and clean the Depot grounds.
Fundraising – For specific short and long term projects.

As a nonprofit public benefit educational institution (Tax ID 68-0087720), the Woodland Train Depot relies on charitable contributions to preserve, restore and operate the museum. Donations also support our educational programs, exhibits and collections.
